Crab Masala ( Chettinad Style)


Crab – 1kg
Cumin Seeds – 1tsp
Fennel Seeds – 1 tsp
Green Chili / dry Chili – 3
Onion – 2
Tomato – 3
Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp

Spice Powders:

Chili powder – 1 tbsp
Coriander powder – 1tbsp
Garam Masala powder – ½ tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1tsp
Crab – 1kg
Turmeric powder – 1tsp
Chili powder – ½ tbsp


  • Take cleaned crab in a vessel, add 1/2 cup of water and salt, turmeric powder and chili powder. Cover and Marinate for 15 mins. Now strain this mix and set aside.
  • In a kadai, heat oil and crackle in cumin and fennel seeds.
  • Add in onions, green chilli and curry leaves and saute this till golden brown.
  • Add in ginger garlic paste and cook that for a min.
  • Add in tomatoes and cook till mushy.
  • Add in the spice powders and salt, along with little of the cooking water and mix well. Cook that for 5 mins .
  • Now add Marinated Crabs and saute for 5 to 6 mins.& add little bit water.
  • Now increase the flame and dry the dish for a min.
  • Add coriander leaves & curry leaves.
  • Serve Hot..
